What is Kambo?

Kambo is a powerful detoxification protocol first used by ancient Amazonian Tribes, known as “the vaccine of the forest”. It is a sacred traditional medicine, though not to be confused with the western definition of medicine. Kambo is administered by highly trained practioners, not doctors. Kambo is a recreation that comes from the Giant Monkey Tree frog, scientifically known as Phyllomedusa Bicolor. Kambo is a walker between two worlds - water and earth. It brings us deeper into connection with our feelings, perspectives, and our ability to purge negativity from our lives, be that , physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. It works on many levels, but on the absolute surface level, it is used to increase the body’s natural ability to heal itself by eliminating toxins through the lymphatic system and fortifying the immune system. What peptides are in Kambo?

Kambo Peptides

Phyllomedusin - A neuropeptide which strongly affects intestines, salivary glands and bowels helping to flush deep toxins.

Phyllokinin - Produces a long-lasting reduction in blood pressure. It helps widen the blood vessels, increasing permeability of the blood-brain barrier. (Increases the rate and flow of a layer of specialized cells around the brain that protects it)
Phyllocaerulein ~ A natural pain killer that reduces blood pressure, modifies fulfilment, helps with sedation and thermoregulation (regulation of body temperature). Stimulates the pituitary gland and the adrenal cortex conducive of heightened sensory perception and increased stamina. 

Phyllolitorin ~ A neuropeptide that stimulates gastric acid secretion and smooth muscle contraction.

Dermorphin - A neuropeptide that produces a powerful opiate-like effects on certain Opioid receptors. It has been known to be up to 40 x more potent than morphine.

Tryptophyllins - A neuropeptide that has anti-microbial properties which have been found to inhibit the growth of yeast Candida Albicans, Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli.

Contra-indications and Pre-cautions

Kambô is very safe but should always be taken with a properly trained practitioner administering and supervising the treatments at all times. Certain health conditions prevent some people from taking Kambô just like some situations require special precautions.

Please read carefully the following lists, it is very important that you disclose your whole health history with me as your practitioner. If something is not clear or you don’t understand, please ask.

Contraindications

The following may not safely take Kambô:

  • People with serious heart problems

  • People who have had a stroke

  • People on medication for low blood pressure (this is extremely rare)

  • People who’ve had a brain hemorrhage

  • People who have aneurysms or blood clots

  • People with serious mental health problems excluding depression and anxiety

  • People undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy for 4 – 6 weeks afterward

  • People who take immune-suppressants for an organ transplant

  • Women who are pregnant or may be so

  • Women who are breast-feeding a child under 6 months old

  • People with Addison’s disease

  • People with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome

  • People with current and severe Epilepsy

  • Recovering from a major surgical procedure

  • Under 18

Precautions

Certain situations may require special attention or considerations before, during, or after your treatment. Please inform me as your practitioner if you:

  • Take immune-suppressants for autoimmune disorders

  • Are taking any prescription drugs

  • Have recently stopped taking any medications

  • Are taking, or have recently stopped taking slimming, serotonin or sleeping supplements

  • Have an active drug or alcohol addiction

  • Have recently or currently fasting

  • Have done any water fasting before Kambô other than the required fasting

  • Had colonics, enemas, liver flushes, or any water/juice-based detox recently

  • Chronic health issues: (chronic fatigue, arthritis, migraines, thyroid conditions, etc)

  • Have any fears/phobias

  • Have used Bufo Alvarius in the last two months

  • Have used Iboga in the last two months

  • Had surgery recently

  • Had any viral conditions (Lymes, hepatitis, dengue)

  • Were you born with any heart conditions

  • Have a history of bulimia or anorexia?

  • Are diabetic

  • Have abnormally high/low blood pressure

  • Have asthma

  • Are you undergoing fertility treatments?

  • Are you taking birth control pills?

What should I expect from a session?

BEGINNING

We will start by setting setting an intention, and together decide where the gates will be placed. Then if you desire Sananga and Hape I will administer those for you. Sananga to cleanse the eyes and energetic field, beginning the bodies detoxification process. Hape to further support cleansing any energetic blocks, as well as supports in grounding to focus in on your intention. Next you will drink a liter of water or cassava. I will then use a tamishan to burn small gates into your skin. Next I will apply the medicine.

MIDDLE

Usually the effects of Kambo are felt within 1-5 minutes depending on the area of the body the gates were placed.  You will know kambo is kicking in when you start to feel a slight temperature rise and energetic rush in the crown. At this time we will bring focus to your breath as you try to observe what sensations you are experiencing. With the awareness of the heartbeat rising it will be time to relax, focusing on the breath and surrendering to the process of the frog. Your heart rate will begin to rise for a couple of minutes and you will have a lot of sensation and possibly some swelling (as the medicine is flushing the system out) in the throat and face. You will feel a slight discomfort in your stomach as decades of toxins are loosened and collected, and soon the purging will begin helping to ease the discomfort. Breath is a very important part of the Kambo experience as it allows you to go into a meditative state and quiet the mind. Throughout the process, if you’d like to drink some water, you’re welcome to, and encouraged as it will support in allowing the purge to come with more ease and grace.

The uncomfortable part of the experience is NOT the Kambo, it is the toxins your body is releasing. You manifest this discomfort every day, but don’t realize it, because this negative energy is dispersed throughout the body. Kambo gives us the gift of opening the body, mind, and spirit. It cleanses desensitization. Many emotions may be released during your session as well.

END

The energetic pressure and temperature will soon reduce while the process is nearing resolution. The entire process will usually take approximately 20-30 minutes varying between individuals. Typically you're not throwing up that whole time. Purging comes in many forms. Crying, sweating, burping, yawning, laughing, shaking as well as bottom purging.  About 5-15 minutes of that can be intense while deep purging is happening. Energy pulses throughout the body and the hands with a sense of electricity circulating in each and every cell. The cleaner and stronger the body, the easier the process will be, and it happens quickly; usually in a few sessions. Once the purging is complete, I will then remove the medicine and you may lay down and rest for a bit.

Some cases require a longer session and the recovery can be longer. These are rare cases. Even people with serious illnesses or drug addictions tend to recover quickly. You will be able to drive home after and depending on your experience may be able to move through your day as normal, simply feeling the Kambo working in the digestive tract. Though some may need extra time to rest, I typically recommend to be extra gentle with yourself following Kambo, allowing for reflection and integration. In the jungle, hunters take this medicine, then go on very long hunts. The following day, depending on how deep the purge, you may feel tired, though many feel great, and have more and more energy each day. Be sure to drink lots of electrolytes and stay hydrated. I recommend taking the day off from any other activitives to integrate and BE.
